Graduate Certificate in foreign language teaching

We created the Certificate in Foreign Language Teaching primarily for experienced teachers who do not need a graduate degree but do want a coherent experience similar to the MAFLT. Choose courses from the same FLT curriculum, which emphasizes proficiency, task-based approaches, innovative technology, intercultural competence, and career development for language educators.

Graduate Certificate Requirements
10 CREDITS
1. Required content course = one of the following (3 credits):
- FLT 807 Methods of Foreign Language Teaching or
- FLT 817 Program Development & Administration
2. Elective content courses = 2 other courses of your choice (6 credits)
3. Final Portfolio = website showcasing your achievements, to be completed in the final semester (1 credit)
You can take one course at a time and finish in a year. Apply to the Certificate through the same MSU portal as the MAFLT application. Choose from the same selection of courses as MAFLT students.
BUT if your goal is to teach in a U.S. public school...
Note that this Certificate is not the same as earning certification to teach in a public school in a given state. If you need graduate course credits in order to earn or maintain your K-12 certification, you may count these courses as graduate credits or continuing education units (CEUs).
