The FLEx Foreign Language Excellence Exchange is a virtual conference put on by the students in FLT 817 Program Development and Administration. The 8th FLExchange to date took place in November 2023. The students, fellow faculty, and I have really enjoyed seeing presentations and meeting in plenary sessions each time. Featured guests have included Grant Castner, who facilitates the use of technology for language learning as community manager for Extempore; and Dr. Meg Montee, faculty at Georgetown and director of the federal language resource center for Assessment and Evaluation (AELRC). Each conference consists of several 25-minute sessions proposed, reviewed, planned, and presented by experienced teacher-learners. Recent sessions, often along with videos and slides are available on the conference website here:
https://flexchange.commons.msu.edu/
Teacher-learners enrolled in FLT 817 submit session proposals, review proposals, and prepare presentations on topics that are relevant to their peers and other language teachers.
This Padlet lists some of the suggested topics, many of which are included in each iteration of the conference: https://padlet.com/LanierPedPad/FLExVirtual_FS22_Topics.
The live version of each conference is only open to MAFLT students and faculty and a limited number of invited guests, but we record the sessions for later sharing, if and when participants agree.
